Why your file won’t open

Step by step
- Clash 1: WEBP image, older software. Fix: convert to JPG (or PNG if it has transparency).
- Clash 2: MKV or WEBM video, TV or phone gallery. Fix: convert to MP4.
- Clash 3: FLAC or OGG audio, a car or an old player. Fix: convert to MP3.
- Clash 4: an Office file, no Office. Fix: convert to PDF to read it anywhere, or PDF to Word to edit the other direction.
- Clash 5: a huge BMP or TIFF photo, any upload form. Fix: convert to JPG and compress to the form’s limit.
Tips from people who do this a lot
- The extension is the diagnosis: learn the five clashes and you can fix files for your whole family, forever.
- "Won’t open" is almost never "corrupt" — true corruption stutters and dies mid-use, in every program.
- Send people the compatible version, keep the original for yourself: conversion is a courtesy copy.
FAQ
Why do these incompatible formats exist at all?
Each was best at something — size, quality, features — for its creator. Compatibility is a different virtue, and MP4/MP3/JPG/PDF hold those crowns.
Is there a format that opens everywhere?
Four, roughly: MP4 for video, MP3 for audio, JPG for photos, PDF for documents. When in doubt, land there.
Is this really free?
Yes — every tool on this site is free. A short ad before your download is what pays the server bills, so nothing needs a paywall or an account.
